IU Health Hospital
Technology & Systems Infrastructure Project
Project Size: 3,000,000 sq. ft.
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Electric Plus is delivering one of the largest and most advanced low-voltage and communications infrastructure installations in our portfolio as part of IU Health’s new flagship academic medical center. This stateoftheart hospital spans three towers and 16 stories, totaling 3 million square feet of highly specialized clinical, surgical, diagnostic, and patientcare environments.
MDF/IDF Network Buildout
To support the hospital’s expansive technology ecosystem, Electric Plus is constructing a complete MDF and IDF room network designed for long-term performance, redundancy, and scalability.
Key system components include:
- 113 IDF rooms, each outfitted with 11 fully equipped network racks
- A centralized Main Distribution Frame (MDF) serving as the hospital’s primary technology hub
- Built-to-spec communication spaces supporting critical healthcare systems, nurse call, clinical equipment, electronic medical records, and building operations
This infrastructure forms the backbone that enables seamless connectivity across clinical care floors, operating suites, emergency departments, and support services.
Microduct & Air Blown Fiber System
To ensure the hospital maintains maximum flexibility and future-ready bandwidth, Electric Plus installed a comprehensive microduct pathway network paired with air blown fiber technology.
Highlights include:
- Facility-wide microduct distribution, engineered to allow new fiber to be jetted in without disruptive construction
- Air blown fiber optics connecting every IDF back to the MDF
- All cabling routed to a Belden Cabinet – Fiber Containment System for organized, secure, and efficient long-term fiber management
